Course description

The course aims at providing basic knowledge of the Earth's magnetic field and associated phenomena. Application of the theory and data analysis (e.g., using Matlab) will be practised by solving exercises, and presentation skills will be practised by presenting solutions to the exercises and by giving a short presentation.

Prerequisites:
  • Basic skills in data analysis, physics, and mathematics.
The course consists of:
  • 28 hours of lectures (2 hours/week)
  • 6 sets of exercises
  • A short presentation given by each student
  • A possible visit to Nurmijärvi geophysical observatory
  • An examination
Minimum requirements for passing the course are:
  • 30% of the exam score
  • 30% of the exercise score
    • Points are given for correctly solved problems
    • Extra points can be gained by presenting the solutions
  • Presentation
Evaluation (1-5):
  • The grade is determined based on the exam and exercises such that the weight of the exam score is 70% and that of the exercise score is 30%.
